STOP BELFAST CITY AIRPORT EXPANSION
Tell Belfast City Airport: No to more flights. No to later flights. Put residents first.
Belfast City Airport is proposing major changes that would allow it to significantly expand its operations.
The airport wants to increase its permitted annual aircraft movement limit from 48,000 to 61,000, which would allow up to 13,000 more aircraft movements annually than under the current limit. It is also proposing to extend scheduled operating hours, allowing scheduled aircraft movements until 10.30pm.
For communities living under and around the flight paths, these proposals raise serious concerns about aircraft noise, disturbance and the impact of further airport growth on residential areas.
We, the undersigned, call on Belfast City Airport and the relevant decision-makers to:
- Reject the proposed increase in permitted annual aircraft movements from 48,000 to 61,000.
- Reject the proposed extension of scheduled operating hours to 10.30pm.
- Protect existing safeguards for communities affected by aircraft noise.
- Put the health, wellbeing and quality of life of residents at the heart of decisions about the airport's future.
The Green Party will submit this petition and its signatures as part of Belfast City Airport's public consultation before it closes on 27 October 2026.
