To mark and celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, community events are taking place across Northern Ireland.
Green Party NI representatives Cllr Simon Lee has visited Hillsborough Castle with the Carryduff Retirement Group, Cllr Brian Smyth attended the Ardcarn Jubilee Party in East Belfast and Cllr Anthony Flynn is attending Bloomfield street party today (Thursday 2nd June) and events in Tullycarnet this weekend.
Cllr Flynn has said, 'It is great to see communities across Northern Ireland organising events and getting together, especially after the last few years. I am looking forward to attending a number of parties in the next few days.
Cllr Simon Lee has also welcomed The Queen’s Green Canopy initiative, the tree planting scheme to mark the occasion. He said, "Northern Ireland is among the least wooded regions in Europe with a disappointing 9% tree cover. This is lower than the rest of the UK (13%), the Republic of Ireland (11%) and falls far below the European Union average (38%). The planting of these trees will represent a really positive legacy of the Platinum Jubilee year."
