Green Party Disability Policy Talk

Help Shape Green Party Policy for 2027

As we look ahead to the 2027 Assembly elections, we’re launching a series of monthly policy discussions open to all Green Party members across Northern Ireland.

These sessions are an opportunity to collectively shape the ideas, priorities and detailed policies that will form the backbone of our next election platform.

From drugs to lough neagh, climate action to housing, health, education, transport, workers’ rights and democratic reform every area of policy will benefit from the insight and experience of our members.

Northern Ireland faces complex and urgent challenges:
• A housing crisis that demands long-term solutions
• Public services under sustained pressure
• The climate and biodiversity emergency
• Deep inequalities between communities and regions
• Political instability and a need for more accountable governance

Our strength as a party has always been that policy is shaped by members, informed by evidence, and rooted in our core Green values of social justice, environmental protection and participatory democracy.

These monthly discussions are designed to:
• Create space for members to propose new policy ideas
• Create policy circles for ongoing discussion
• Review and refine existing policy positions
• Ensure our platform reflects the realities facing people across NI
• Build shared ownership of our 2027 programme

Whether you are a long-standing member with specialist knowledge, or someone newer who wants to get more involved, your perspective is valuable.

This is a chance to move beyond reacting to crises and start proactively shaping the future we want to see in Northern Ireland. If we want a just transition, properly funded public services, a fair economy and a politics that works we have to build it together. Will you help us?

This Session Focus: Disability Policy
Disabled people in the North have been repeatedly failed by those in power. Decisions at Stormont and within Health and Social Care have left many facing long waiting lists, inaccessible services, and constant uncertainty about the support they rely on. Instead of building a system that respects dignity and independence, disabled people are too often treated as an afterthought. We deserve properly funded services, meaningful accessibility, and policies shaped with disabled people, not imposed on us.

Together, we’ll explore what meaningful change is possible here and how the Green Party can lead that debate heading into 2027.
