Cllr Stephen Dunlop, Green Party NI representative for Bangor Central warmly welcomed the announcement that Bangor will be given “City” status by the Queen.

Speaking after the announcement, the member of Ards and North Down Borough Council's Regeneration and Development Committee said:

“This boost to Bangor’s status couldn’t have come at a better time. There are so many positive projects just about to start or be completed, that collectively will propel Bangor’s image forward to a new vision of a cultural quarter within NI and a quality seaside town. It will genuinely be one of the best locations to live in.

"The Open House Festival refurbishment of the Court House to a high quality venue will conclude late summer, the Belfast City Region Deal bringing £50m investment to Bangor is now signed off, the Queens Parade development is in its final stages prior to starting, the Royal Hotel rebuild is about to start; this is a major turning point for the town centre and I’m very confident these major steps will bring forward more investment in different ways. The ball is really rolling for Bangor and its long overdue but we’re definitely on that upward curve.”
