Rescue plan demanded for the hospitality & tourist industry

Tuesday 03 November 2020

Green Party MLA Rachel Woods has lodged an Assembly motion alongside PBP MLA Gerry Carroll MLA, calling for the Executive to adopt the measures contained within unite the Union's rescue plan for the local hospitality sector.

Rachel Woods MLA said: "Hospitality workers and business owners are in the midst of a crisis, many have lost their jobs, their livelihoods and uncertainty is rife and crippling. It's a depressing picture made more so by the absence of a sector specific rescue plan.

"The motion calls on the Assembly to support the creation and implementation of a sector specific Hospitality and Tourism Rescue plan. Part of the plan is the establishment of a Hospitality Commission working between employer, union and government to ensure that financial support is conditional on employers committing to improve the terms, conditions and pay of workers.

"We must build back better from this pandemic, valuing all our workers, particularly those on low pay and insecure contractual terms."
