Green Party MLA Rachel Woods has said that there is a lack of new ideas in the “Rebuilding a Stronger Economy” strategy from the the Department for the Economy.
Rachel Woods said: “The Covid crisis has exposed the many frailties in our economy and society. There is now an opportunity for us to build back better - to make the transition towards a low carbon economy and a fairer economy. To do that, we need fresh thinking and not a business as usual attitude.
“While it’s welcome that the Department has moved to put this strategy and group together, there is a lack of reference to tackling climate breakdown alongside recovering from the Covid crisis.
“I would have liked the advisory panel to contain individuals from an environmental background, trade unions, a voluntary and community sector background and people with experience in social enterprise.
“Despite this, I wish the appointees well in the big task ahead and urge them to take on the challenge of climate breakdown alongside a just economic recovery from Covid.”
