The Green Party MLA for North Down has responded to the arrest of four men in the Bangor and Newtownards areas in connection with the hijacking and burning of a bus in Newtownards earlier this month. Police have linked the attack to a local branch of the UVF.
Rachel Woods MLA said: “I welcome the latest development in the police’s investigation. The recent bus hijackings in Newtownards and Newtownabbey have inflicted unacceptable damage on those communities, and I hope that the perpetrators will be soon brought before the courts. The bus drivers and passengers affected have been through a traumatic ordeal, and deserve to feel safe and be able to do their job, and travel, without fear.
“Violence is never a legitimate response to political disagreement and has no support from our communities.
“I urge anyone with any information related to either bus hijacking to contact the PSNI on 101, or information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
