North Down MLA Rachel Woods has said that our education system is broken after post primary school places were allocated at the weekend.
Rachel Woods MLA: “I was contacted over the weekend by several families in great distress as a result of the allocation of post-primary school places.
“I’ve been trying to assist these families as much as possible, but the reality is that the system is broken. Academic selection at eleven is unfair and it always has been.
“It traumatises so many of our young people and its effects can be profound and long lasting.
“This year is different, with pupils not sitting the transfer test.
“It must be recognised, however, that our entire education system is deeply flawed with division and inequity at its core.
“That’s why I support an education system which educates all of our children together as a fairer system which contributes to peace and reconciliation.”
