Rachel Woods MLA: Pension uncertainty continues for troubles victims

Tuesday 09 February 2021

Green Party MLA and Justice Committee Member Rachel Woods MLA has said there is continuing uncertainty around who will fund a pension for people injured as a result of the Troubles.

The comments come as the Court of Appeal today ruled that Stormont’s Executive Office is under a legal duty to fund the pension

Rachel Woods MLA said: "Today’s ruling does not provide the crucial clarity around who will pay for the scheme and when pension payments will begin.
“Victims are still waiting for the pensions and every additional day that they wait represents an affront to them.

“The denial of responsibility for assisting victims through pension payments is a shameful indictment of the Westminster government and government locally."
