Green Party MLA Rachel Woods has welcomed the introduction of the Licensing Bill, reacting positively to the modernisation of the legislation.
Speaking ahead of the Consideration Stage of the Bill, Rachel Woods MLA said:
“Tomorrow sees a further step towards the much-needed modernisation of our licensing laws with the Consideration Stage reading of the Licensing Bill.
“I worked in the hospitality industry for many years and really enjoyed my time pulling pints, serving great food and learning the ropes in busy kitchens.
“This reform comes at a critical time for the hospitality industry as we emerge from the pandemic. Businesses have been doing everything possible to keep their heads above water during the past 18 months.
“COVID-19 has ravaged the industry and the future for many is uncertain. We must continue to support our local businesses.
“The modernisation of our laws will, in part, provide a much-needed boost for the industry, notably with the removal of the Easter restrictions.
“I’ve been working hard to make the Bill as good as it can possibly be and I have focussed on our microbreweries and local producers, ensuring that they can attract as many visitors as possible.
“I look forward to this legislation being scrutinised and better days ahead for our hospitality industry as a whole.”
