Rachel Woods MLA has said that increased numbers of calls to domestic abuse helplines comes as a source of frustration but also encouragement.
Rachel said: "I am encouraged that people are picking up the phone and asking for help and support for domestic abuse.
"The warning around increased rates of domestic violence have been loud and
clear and we are coming to understand the dangers of isolation with abusive partners or family members.
"While we all feel fearful and unsettled by Covid-19, some are living with the added pressure of abuse, violence and coercive control.
"Indeed, people in Northern Ireland are placed in a more precarious position without specific domestic violence and stalking legislation in place to deal with offenders.
"I would again encourage people to make the call for help and support. There are several helpline numbers with advisers ready to provide for help and support."
