Chair of Belfast City Council's Climate Group, Cllr Brian Smyth has responded to the launch of Belfast City Council's first ever Climate Plan.
Green Party NI's Councillor Brian Smyth said: "The launch of the first ever climate plan is a significant day for the city.
"It's important that we manage to take communities with us on this journey, a people led transition to a low carbon city. There must also be a focus on young people giving them a central role in in delivering climate action in the city they call home.
"There are so many areas in which we can make change happen quickly through this plan. From retro fitting housing stock, which will not only reduce carbon emissions, but will tackle fuel poverty; to creating green jobs and apprenticeships, working with our education sector to give young people opportunity and hope.
"Belfast must take this chance to become a climate resilient city and bring climate action and social justice to the fore in preparing for challenges ahead."
