Green Party NI MLA Rachel Woods has welcomed the expected partial return of live music and theatres on 21 June 2021.
"It's a welcome development that we expect to see a partial return of live music and theatres on the 21 June, barring any change in decision from the Executive.
"It should be remembered that musicians and DJs are mostly self-employed and although they will be relieved at getting back to work, the Covid restrictions have been especially difficult for most in the industry, with many ineligible for financial support under government schemes.
"Music, theatre and live entertainment are a cornerstone of our night-time economy and we risk losing a generation of talented performers. I'd urge the government to engage with industry representatives in the future, learn from the difficulties that many have faced in accessing support, and provide a dedicated support fund for music here in Northern Ireland.
“The Covid crisis is, sadly, not over and the future is uncertain. The safe return to live music and theatre is welcome but we must ensure that there is a safety net developed for the future."
