Green Party NI in Ards and North Down has announced Lauren Kendall as their new Councillor for Holywood & Clandeboye

The Green Party NI in Ards and North Down has announced Lauren Kendall as their new Councillor for Holywood and Clandeboye.

Lauren Kendall went to school and still lives in Holywood, has an Open University Degree in Economics and English Literature, Professional Certificate in Accounting, L5 Leadership in Health and Social Care, and a Masters of Public Administration from University of Ulster.

Lauren previously worked as a Law Searcher, has worked in the community & non-profit/charity sector for over 15 years, including as a senior social care manager supporting people with learning disabilities and now works within the environmental/conservation sector.

Cllr Lauren Kendall said: "I am pleased and privileged to join a hardworking team of Greens in North Down. I hope to follow Kathryn’s lead and carry on her brilliant work for Holywood and Clandeboye.

"As someone who lives in Holywood, I am keen that our local area recovers from the challenges brought about by the pandemic. The pandemic has acutely highlighted people’s existing economic and social struggles and I hope to make a positive difference for the local community.

"I am deeply committed to ensuring that young people are represented. Having worked together with people with disabilities, I’m keen to raise the voice of people living and working in social care and to champion opportunities and equality for people with disabilities.  As a Green, I will promote the positive benefits of preserving our natural environment and green spaces and the crucial importance of taking urgent action to combat climate breakdown."

Green Party MLA for North Down, Rachel Woods added: "I am delighted to have Lauren on board and I thank Kathryn McNickle for her extremely hard work over the years and her commitment to the people of Holywood and Clandeboye DEA.

"Kathryn's honest and sincerity has shone through since she made the decision to step down and I know that she will not be a stranger to the many friends she has made."

Kathryn McNickle concluded: "I'm confident that Lauren will do a fantastic job as part of a team of Green Party NI representatives working hard to make a positive difference to people within the communities they serve."
