Green Party disappointed by Poots' failure to introduce snare ban

The Green Party has expressed disappointment after Minister Edwin Poots confirmed that he has no plans to ban the sale or use of animal snares in Northern Ireland.

Rachel Woods MLA said: “Animal snares are a cruel and painful practise which cause unnecessary suffering to animals. The Welsh Government has recently announced its intention to introduce a ban, and it’s now time for Northern Ireland to follow suit.”

Green Party Cllr Anthony Flynn added: “A 2015 Ipsos Mori poll found that 74% of those surveyed in Northern Ireland think snares should be banned. I am disappointed that Minister Poots has decided to ignore the voices of animal rights activists, and is refusing to bring forward measures to ban snares.”
