The cross-party net-zero Climate Change Bill brought forward by Green Party NI Leader Clare Bailey MLA, and co-sponsored by Sinn Féin, SDLP, UUP, Alliance, PBP and independent MLAs, has passed committee stage scrutiny in the Assembly.
The South Belfast MLA said: “I’m pleased that the cross-party net-zero Climate Change Bill has passed committee stage in the Assembly today. Over the past several months, the committee has heard evidence from numerous witnesses, and the Bill has received extensive scrutiny.
“Taking on board expert and stakeholder evidence, amendments to make the Bill more robust have been agreed, and the Bill will now move to Consideration Stage in the New Year.
“Only the cross-party Climate Change Bill includes provisions for a net-zero emissions target, an independent Climate Commissioner, and a Just Transition Fund for Agriculture. The Bill has widespread political and civic support, and it remains on track to become law before the next election.”
