Green Party NI Leader Clare Bailey responded to the Northern Ireland abortion regulations, published by Government yesterday.
Clare Bailey MLA said:
“The regulations on abortion in Northern Ireland are another step forward and are to be welcomed.
“Access to abortion up to the 12 week stage is relatively unrestricted which is a positive. However, the barriers to access after 12 weeks are discouraging and will create difficulties for many women.
“The plight of women requiring access to abortion during this pandemic can not be ignored.
”We would call on the Health Minister to put telemedicine in
place whereby the required medication can be posted to a home address after an initial telephone consultation.
“This would reduce the impact on the NHS and abide by social distancing protocol and current travel restrictions.”
