Clare Bailey MLA: EC legal action over Internal Markets Bill was

Thursday 01 October 2020

Green Party NI leader Clare Bailey has commented on the EC’s commencement of legal action against the UK regarding the Withdrawal Agreement:

Clare Bailey MLA said:

"Legal action from the EC was inevitable given the flagrant contravention of international law on the part of the UK via the Internal Market Bill.

"The EC has shown a commitment to the people of Northern Ireland, our economic and social issues and our fragile peace throughout the course of the Brexit process. The Tory government, on the other hand, has shown total disregard for our citizens with a Brexit at any cost strategy.

"The rule of law applies to all nation states equally, no matter how superior or unaccountable this Prime Minister sets himself and his government to be.

"I will be watching developments as we edge closer to the disastrous prospect of a no deal Brexit and call on the UK Government to engage in good faith with the EU to ensure that a deal is made possible."
