Clare Bailey in tribute to Ballymurphy families as Coroner affirms innocence of their loved ones

Tuesday 11 May 2021

Green Party NI leader Clare Bailey MLA has responded to the findings of the Ballymurphy Inquest, saying:

“The verdict of the Coroner affirms what the families of those killed in Ballymurphy in 1971 have always known - that their loved ones were entirely innocent.

“It’s shameful that it has taken fifty years for official recognition that the killing of these ten people was unjustifiable.

“Families have lived through the past fifty years with the heavy toll of the injustice that was visited upon them. I only hope that today comes as some degree of comfort after decades of distress and compounded grief.

“I pay tribute to the fortitude of the Ballymurphy families and the grace and dignity that they have shown during this difficult and protracted Inquest process.”
