Clare Bailey MLA has called for the urgent establishment of an expert Covid taskforce for Northern Ireland to develop a strategic plan for dealing with the virus.
The Green Party Leader and MLA for South Belfast said: “The five party Executive has shown itself to be incapable of dealing with crisis. The covid crisis is unprecedented but we’ve also had Executive inaction around the mental health crisis, the longstanding healthcare crisis, the crisis in our high streets and the endemic poverty crisis.
“If we are to get to grips with Covid and begin to learn to live with the virus, we need an improved track, trace and test system. Businesses need proper compensation if they are asked to close and people self-isolating need financial support and care packages to pay bills, to put food on the table and to heat their homes.
“The competing agendas within this five party Executive render it incapable of dealing with the pandemic and its deep impacts across society.
“It’s time to do something different to protect lives and livelihoods.”
