Commenting on the British Pregnancy Advice Service (BPAS) announcement on a new Pills by Post abortion pill service, Clare Bailey MLA said:
“The Pills by Post Service is providing safe and practical access to abortion during this pandemic while the NI Executive has instructed the health trusts to provide nothing.
“The advice from government is to stay home and stay safe yet women have been told to travel outside this jurisdiction to access abortion.
“This is unsafe, cruel and unnecessary. Telemedicine provides a safe and practical access to abortion. It’s also lifts pressure from our health service at this time.
“Yet our Executive clearly doesn’t trust women and won’t enable telemedicine. That’s why I’m pleased that BPAS has stepped in where our government has failed with this Pills By Post Service.
“I’d encourage anyone in need of reproductive care or advice at this time to contact BPAS by telephone on 03457 30 40 30. The BPAS website is www.bpas.org"
