Green Party Councillor Barry McKee has requested an emergency meeting of Ards and North Down Borough Council in an attempt to save the jobs of workers employed by SERCO across the borough.
Cllr Barry McKee said: “There is an urgent need for Council to protect the jobs of people employed by SERCO in leisure services across our borough.
“We need clarity from SERCO as to whether these jobs can be protected via the furlough jobs retention scheme.
“The furlough scheme was designed by the Chancellor to protect livelihoods and offer people some financial certainty.
“These workers are the very people that the scheme was designed for. I’ve called for the emergency council meeting to see what can be done to retain and protect these jobs.”
