Ards and North Down Council to introduce menopause policy

Ards and North Down Council yesterday (Tuesday 11th January 2022) approved a Green Party NI motion calling for the introduction of a policy to support workers experiencing menopause.

Green Party NI Councillor for Holywood and Clandeboye, Lauren Kendall, who proposed the motion, said: “Around eight in 10 people of menopausal age are in work, but many of those who experience symptoms consider leaving work. It’s important that as an employer, the Council has policies in place to ensure that staff members who are experiencing menopause are supported.

“A menopause-friendly workplace means a commitment to diversity and inclusion, making reasonable adjustments for those experiencing menopause, and educating the whole workforce.

“I hope that by taking the lead on implementing menopause-friendly workplace policies, the Council will act as a example for other employers in Ards and North Down to follow.”
