State of our Seas Report gives rise to concern

Wednesday 23 October 2019

Rachel Woods MLA has commented on the findings of the State of our Seas report, published today.

Rachel, MLA for North Down, said: “The marine waters of Northern Ireland are under great pressure from the effects of climate breakdown and industrial scale pollution.

“This is clearly a global problem but we must work at a local level to improve our beautiful coastlines and seas and safeguard our unique marine life and bird species.

“People can make a different at an individual level – for, by example, cutting out their contribution to single use plastic pollution and moving away from our throw away consumerist habits.

“However, we need strong and urgent action at government level. The Green Party NI will be making a submission to the Consultation on a draft Environment Strategy and setting out the urgent action that’s required to address climate breakdown.”
