Robin Newton must stand down and answer some serious questions

Wednesday 11 October 2017

Commenting on the issues concerning the relationship between Robin Newton and Charter NI, Steven Agnew MLA said:

“The conduct of Robin Newton raises serious questions. It’s my contention that the Assembly Speaker misled the Assembly with his statement last November.

“The entire issue of the distribution of the Social Investment Fund and Robin Newton’s association with Charter NI has further eroded public trust and confidence in our institutions.

“Mr Newton’s lack of candour has been startling – he has sought to conceal his deep association with Charter NI at every turn. It amounts to a concerted effort to avoid transparency and accountability.

“That’s why I’m calling for Mr Newton to stand down as Assembly speaker.”

The leader of the Green Party in Northern Ireland continued:

“There are further serious questions for both the DUP and Sinn Fein around the management of the Social Investment Fund (SIF).

“SIF money is public money. The same public money that our schools and hospitals are being told to make do with less of.”
