
The Green Party supports the local food industry because this helps to ensure food security and the long-term economic benefit of Northern Ireland agriculture. The Green Party believes a move towards organic farming will benefit farmers and consumers as well as preserving and enhancing soil fertility and water quality. Until the true effects of GM farming is understood the Green Party is opposed to its introduction in Northern Ireland.

The Green Party supports the development of alternative energy in Northern Ireland in an effort to reduce our dependency on fossil fuel. In particular we support the research and development of green energy including wind, wave, solar and wood. The Green Party is opposed to any plans to develop nuclear power in Northern Ireland.

The Green Party believes that animals, as sentient beings with the ability to feel pain, suffering and anxiety, must be seen as having an inherent value and not simply as valuable as property, family pets, or as a means of producing food for human consumption. We believe that justice demands that like must be treated alike and in the respect in which animals are alike humans they should be afforded equal protection.

The Green Party is the only political party which has a solution to the current economic down turn. The 'Green New Deal' will revitalize business, creating a new alliance between environmentalists, industry, agriculture and unions to put the interests of the real economy ahead of those of footloose finance.

The Green Party believes that Northern Ireland must play its part with the other nations of the world and reduce its CO2 emissions in an effort to address the effects of climate change. The Green Party believes that a Northern Ireland which is environmental aware will be a prosperous Northern Ireland as climate change will offer opportunities as well as problems.

The Green Party will actively oppose and seek to reverse any public service health policy reforms which lead to a two or multi-tier health services with uneven standards and service provision. The Green Party believes that we must protect and support our most vulnerable in society; this requires a balanced, integrated and holistic understanding and approach.

The Green Party believes that a new Northern Ireland needs a new political voice. The Green Party is the only political party in Northern Ireland which does not accept corporate donations. Freedom from big business is the only way to insure that government policy works for the people and just business.

The Green Party’s main transport target is to get people out of their cars and into public transport such as buses, light rail and train. It is the Green Party’s view that until such time as serious funding is directed to public transport so that it can perform according to modern lifestyle demands, this will remain unachievable. Therefore it is Green Party policy that transport should be one of the key financial winners in any future budgets.
