Barbara Haig is standing in the Strangford constituency for the Green Party in the Westminster election 2010. A resident of Strangord for over 30-years, Barbara grew up in Belfast and worked for 16-years at the Harland & Wolff Shipyard.
After which she worked for 24-years in the voluntary sector in Co. Down and Belfast. She is currently a key figure in animal welfare circles and has dedicated her life to the rescue of abused and neglected animals.
Barbara decided to stand for the Green Party because of her strong views on conservation, animal welfare and alternative energy: “I am a member of several Down based conservation groups and animal welfare organizations. I care very deeply about conservation and environmental issues. The Green Party also has an economic policy that I support which will create jobs.
The Green vision for a Green-Tech Northern Ireland sector is refreshing and makes sense. Many in Strangford are bored with tribal politics. I am offering a style of politics that all can unite behind, that will lead to a sustainable economy and tackle serious issues like climate change.
