Green Party leader, MLA for South Belfast

South Belfast MLA Clare was elected to the Assembly 2016 and was the driving force behind the party adopting a pro-choice position. An active campaigner on anti-sectarian and equality issues, she designates as ‘Feminist’ in the Assembly.

Cllr Malachai O’Hara

Green Party Deputy leader, Belfast City Council

Malachai O’Hara is the Green Party Councillor for Castle, North Belfast. Malachai’s background is in community leadership and is a long standing LGBTQ activist. He has been on the board of local suicide prevention charity Lighthouse since 2011.

“I’m North Belfast born and bred and I’m a passionate advocate for communities that suffered the most during the conflict and who continue to face challenges, despite relative peace. These are proud communities but austerity, lack of clean, green spaces and mental ill health are testing people day and daily.

Rachel Woods MLA

Ards & North Down Borough Council

Rachel Woods is the Green Party councillor for Holywood and Clandeboye. A trained researcher, she worked as a caseworker for Steven Agnew and has trained as a Community Drug and Alcohol Responder.

Cllr Àine Groogan

Belfast City Council

Àine is the Green Party councillor for Botanic DEA. Àine previously worked for the Irish Embassy in Latvia and as a legal analyst in Belfast before working for Clare Bailey as a constituency office worker.

Cllr Simon Lee

Lisburn & Castlereagh Council

Simon Lee is the Green Party councillor for Castlereagh South. A teacher who is passionate about education and wants to contribute to the development of a new kind of politics in Northern Ireland that moves beyond the tribalism and waste that has held our society back.

Cllr Barry McKee

Ards & North Down Borough Council

Barry McKee is the Green Party Councillor for Bangor West. He is a lifelong resident of Bangor, educated at Ballyholme Primary & St Columbanus’ College. Barry progressed to study Music at Queens University Belfast and graduated in 2005.

Barry works as a Social Care worker at Praxis Care and works with adults with learning disability. Barry is also a workplace organiser for GMB – Britain’s General Union.

Kathryn McKnickle

Kathryn McKnickle is the new Green Party Councillor for Holywood and Clandeboye.

Kathryn grew up in Bangor and went to school in Holywood. Kathryn studied in Manchester for a number of years before returning home to take up employment in the advice sector.
