Legacy consultation extension without better engagement a poor decision from SoS

Wednesday 05 September 2018

Clare Bailey MLA has said that the Secretary of State’s decision to extend the legacy consultation period without an accompanying effort to better engage with victims and survivors is a, “poor and concerning decision”.

The South Belfast MLA said: “The NIO tells us that it’s trying to find the best way to meet the needs of victims and survivors.

“Yet, the Secretary of State decides to extend the consultation period without an accompanying commitment to better engage with victims and survivors.

“There is also an absence of support for victims and survivors to assist understand and work through a complex consultation process.

“I am concerned that Karen Bradley MP is missing the opportunity to finally address some of the needs of victims and survivors.

“The Secretary of State’s decision making is poor and concerning on this matter”.
