Cllr Rachel Woods

Heatwave should get us all thinking about responsible water use

Councillor Rachel Woods has said that the hosepipe ban should get us all thinking about water use and the importance of well maintained infrastructure.

The Green Party Councillor said: “The period of hot, dry weather looks set to continue and has increased treated water demand across Northern Ireland.

“While there is adequate water stock in our waterways and reservoirs, there are difficulties in treating the water quickly enough to meet the demand.

“The recent hosepipe ban should get people thinking about how precious water and our infrastructure systems are. Responsible water use is something we should always practice, not just during a heatwave.

“We should also consider how important it is to invest in our infrastructure. This hot, dry weather is an unusual weather event, but climate change means we should expect extreme weather more often.”
