Green Party welcomes Glider as the way forward

Tuesday 26 August 2018

Áine Groogan, Green Party rep. for Botanic has said the new Glider Service is a long overdue and welcome addition to Belfast’s transport system.

The Glider System is launched officially on Monday 03 September with a limited service rolled out across this week.

Áine Groogan said: “This is major development for Belfast’s transport system and I’m looking forward to the Glider getting up to full speed.

“The Glider provides an opportunity for people to travel in a more sustainable way and for many, a welcome opportunity to leave the car at home”.

Áine continued:

“The Glider offers an improved service with enhanced accessibility features, vastly improved waiting and passenger information facilities at stops and a hybrid engine emitting negligible fumes.

“It’s inevitable that there will be teething problems in the early days.  However, the Glider represents at the way forward for Belfast’s transport system.

“Steven Agnew MLA is meeting with Department for Infrastructure officials to discuss some issues raised by his constituents relating to the Glider.

“Engagement between service users, elected representatives and officials should ensure that any early issues with the new system are ironed out.”
