Green Party rep Brian Smyth condemns KKK graffiti in east Belfast

Monday April 23 2018

Green Party rep Brian Smyth has condemned racist graffiti that has been painted in the Ravenhill Road area of Belfast.

The Green Party rep has contacted Belfast City Council to report the sinister graffiti just off London Road, which includes the letters ‘KKK’ and an image of a hooded figure.

“This disturbing graffiti has been daubed on the wall with only one intention – to frighten and intimidate people who have every right to live their lives in peace,” the Lisnasharragh rep said.

“There is an ongoing pattern in this area where homes and cars have been singled out for attacks in recent months, not to mention the racist leafletting, and we will be meeting the PSNI later this week to raise these issues.

“It is clear that a small group of trouble-makers are intent on building an atmosphere of fear and tension in the area.

“Belfast is a city that welcomes people from different backgrounds and I would appeal to residents in the area to keep an eye out and support their neighbours. This city is for everyone.

“Families are still dealing with the fallout from previous racist incidents in this area and the Green Party is doing everything it can to help.

“If any residents in the Ravenhill area ever have a query or need support, give me a shout at bcssmyth@gmail.com and I’ll do what I can.”
