Green Party provides a cautious welcome for RHI public inquiry

Friday 20 January 2017

Green Party leader Steven Agnew MLA has offered a cautious welcome to the institution of a public inquiry into the Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) scheme failings.

Steven Agnew said: “I first called for a public inquiry last December and indeed was the only MLA to spot the flaw in the scheme in 2013.

“I offer a cautious welcome because further detail is needed around the workings of the inquiry, including its timeframe and terms of reference.

I am content, however, that Arlene Foster is no longer First Minister and will not therefore have a hand in this inquiry.”

The North Down MLA concluded:

“This means that we have a better chance of a genuinely independent public inquiry and much needed accountability and transparency.”
