Green Party Pride at leading the way on LGBTQ issues

Speaking at the start of Belfast Pride celebrations, Clare Bailey MLA said today, Thursday, 28 July 2016,

“I am delighted that once again, Belfast Pride, will be injecting colour and celebration into the city.

“This truly inclusive community festival also provides a welcome boost for commerce and tourism over the summer.

“I am thrilled that Green Party leader Steven Agnew MLA has been nominated for the award for political contribution to the community, along with our West Belfast candidate Ellen Murray, the first transgender election candidate in Ireland.

“The Green Party has been leading the way to bring about equality for the LGBTQ community, not least through changing the conversation on marriage equality by bringing forward the first ever Assembly motion on LGBTQ issues in 2011.

“I am proud that we stood four LGBTQ candidates in the recent Assembly elections, and that the Queer Greens produced a queer manifesto outlining the next, bold, steps needed to achieve equality and liberation.

Clare Bailey added,

“As part of Belfast Pride, Queer Greens are hosting a panel discussion on the issues queer liberation should be fighting for on Thursday 4 August.

“We will also be out in force at the Pride rally on Saturday 6 August. Come and join us!”.
