Green party leader “totally frustrated” after latest talks failure

Thursday 29 June 2017

Steven Agnew MLA has said that he is “totally frustrated” after the traditional parties failed to come to an agreement to restore the power sharing institutions.

The Green Party leader said:

“The traditional parties have failed once again. I am frustrated that they have chosen to put narrow party priorities before the interests of the people of Northern Ireland at a time when our public services are under severe pressure and Brexit looms large.

“Sinn Fein and the DUP have had six months to work through their points of contention.

“Their failure to do so means that we are facing a reduction in our budget and a possible return to Direct Rule or another Assembly election.

“Devolved government in Northern Ireland is too important to allow the DUP and Sinn Fein to pull it down in their own interests.”
