Female candidates lead the way for Westminster

Tuesday 16 May 2017

The Green Party has selected a majority of female candidates for the forthcoming Westminster election.

Standing seven candidates in total, four of the candidates are women and three men.

Clare Bailey is deputy leader and has been selected for South Belfast.

Clare said:

“I’m proud that we’re the only local party to be standing a majority of female candidates.

“The four female Green Party candidates can draw on our varied backgrounds and life experiences in representing our respective constituencies.

“Ricky Bamford has worked in the community and voluntary sector for over 30 years, Georgina Milne is a research scientist, Tanya Jones is a well-known anti-fracking campaigner and I’m a MLA for South Belfast.

“However, we’re all candidates on merit alone and I’m proud to stand for a party that encourages female participation in public life.

Clare Bailey concluded:

“We’re putting you first – standing to secure your say on the final Brexit deal, your public services and your equality”.
