Green Party: Disappointment over university green league table results

Wednesday November 15 2017

Green Party leader Steven Agnew has expressed disappointment that two of Northern Ireland’s colleges have been awarded a Fail on a league table of 154 UK universities.

Stranmillis University College came in at 147th on the 10th annual People & Planet University League, while St Mary’s University College in Belfast reached 142nd.

The University of Ulster was awarded a 2:1 after it reached 51st on the list, while Queen’s University Belfast received a 2:2 for reaching 90th.

Green Party leader Steven Agnew said: “It’s disappointing that some of our colleges have fared so badly when it comes to sustainability, particularly as Northern Ireland has such a proud history of being at the forefront of technological innovation.

“I would congratulate the University of Ulster and Queen’s University Belfast for the efforts which have helped them to beat off competition from many others and hope to see all our universities press ahead on sustainability in the future.”
