Green Party announce strongest line up yet for Westminster election

Monday 08 May 2017

Steven Agnew has described the Green Party 2017 Westminster election candidates as the strongest Green Party line up yet.

The party is standing seven Westminster candidates, more than ever before. Party leaders Steven Agnew and Clare Bailey are standing in North Down and South Belfast respectively.

Steven Agnew said:

“I’m delighted to be standing in North Down but I’m also proud to bring you our strongest line up of candidates yet.

“The Green Party is standing four women and three men as candidates in this election – making us the only party to truly endorse and advance women in politics.

“We’re standing in constituencies right across Northern Ireland. We can build on the steady growth of the Green vote across Northern Ireland and indeed tap into the surge in green support that is taking place across these islands and into mainland Europe.

“Green Party candidates will put people first – that means securing a referendum on the final Brexit deal, protecting public services and advancing equality for all of our citizens.

“It is decisions made at Westminster that have starved our health and education services of resources.  The Tory austerity agenda has meant ever increasing waiting lists and schools under threat. Brexit will only make these problems worse.

“I want to see Green Party candidates on Westminster’s green benches. We guarantee to put people first and challenge Brexit at every opportunity.

“Please vote Green on Thursday 08 June 2017.
