Green Party councillor Georgina Milne has welcomed news that a new stretch of the Comber Greenway is being upgraded following the announcement of an additional £120,000 funding by the Department for Infrastructure.

The route has already been widened and resurfaced between Holywood Arches and East Link Road and the latest funding will extend the scheme an extra 1.8 kilometres to Millmount Chase.

“This path has become a vital link for walkers and cyclists who need a safe route through the city that takes them away from dangerous and polluting traffic,” she said.

“The development of greenways has encouraged people onto their bikes to enjoy a healthier and more environmentally friendly way of travelling.

“We are lucky to have these high-class greenways connecting the east of the city and I would love to see this network extended throughout the city of Belfast to create a true cycling city, with all the benefits that would bring.”
