First residents parking scheme welcomed in South Belfast

Green Party rep Áine Groogan has welcomed the commencement of the first residents parking scheme in South Belfast.

The Botanic rep was commenting after the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) announced the start of Controlled Parking Zones for residents and business owners in the Rugby Road and College Park Avenue areas.

“We have worked for a long time with residents supporting them in their campaign for a much-needed parking scheme,” the Green Party rep said.

“This will go some way to help alleviate the daily problems in the area where people can’t get parked anywhere near their homes and are forced to walk on the road as the pavements are taken over by cars.

“These issues are endemic across the whole of South Belfast, however, and this just highlights how we have no strategic plan for our city’s infrastructure.

“This scheme has been a long time coming, and we will be working closely with the Department going forward to ensure that other schemes are progressed in South Belfast as a matter of priority as parking issues are endemic across the whole area.”
