DUP “family firm” approach to employing office staff must change

Tuesday 01 August 2017

South Belfast MLA Clare Bailey has said that the DUP need to change their “family firm” approach to office staff employment after latest records revealed that four DUP MPs still employ relatives.

Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, Gregory Campbell and Ian Paisley Jnr all pay their wives for administrative roles while Gavin Robinson employs his father in law as a part-time office manager.

The Green Party deputy leader said: “There are hundreds of talented and innovative graduates coming out of our universities each year. They deserve a chance to secure jobs within politics and work for their communities.

“The DUP are completely out of step with modern employment practices in continuing to employ family members.

“This family firm approach suppresses diversity and equal opportunity . It needs to be changed.”
