Decision to light up Bangor Town Hall hailed

Thursday 20 December 2018

Cllr Rachel Woods has hailed the decision of Ards & North Down Borough Council to light Bangor Town Hall in the rainbow colours.

The Green Party Councillor has said that the decision to light up the Town Hall to mark the start of LGBT Awareness Week next year represents a small win in the struggle for equality.

Rachel Woods, who sits on Council and supported the proposal, said: “The decision to light up Bangor Town Hall is a small win on a long struggle for equality.

“I hope that Queer people and allies across our Borough will see last night as a recognition of their rights. There is much we need to do around advancing marriage equality and ending endemic discrimination against Queer people.

“However, today is a good day if even one LBGTQ person feels safer, more included and recognised as a result of the decision of Council last night.”
