Green Party candidate for East Antrim
Typical of many people in Northern Ireland, Dawn shied away from politics as she wanted nothing to do with sectarianism. However, she joined the Green Party as she was drawn to the transparency and integrity of the party.
“The Green Party’s core principles tie in with my beliefs on how the issues of our world needs to be tackled,” says Dawn.
“I became much more involved with the party following the arrival of fracking companies to Northern Ireland. From working on the anti-fracking issue, I saw that the only party with any real commitment to sustainability was the Green Party.
“I believe Northern Ireland has the natural resources to be a sustainable, energy independent region and can take inspiration from around the world. For example, Germany has a renewable energy co-op owned by two million residents. With a population of around 1.8 million, there is no reason why we couldn’t aspire to something similar here.
“More Green voices in the Assembly would help make dreams like this a reality.”
