Cllr Rachel Woods at Hill Street Mews

Community garden has the power to tranform derelict area

Wednesday 11 September 2019

Green Party Councillor for Holywood, Rachel Woods has said that a community garden for the Hill Street Mews area of the town has the, “potential to transform the area.”

Cllr Woods has been working with the Housing Executive to transform an area of derelict land into a community garden with space for growing fruit and vegetables.

Cllr Woods said: “I have spoken with residents and many are excited about getting involved in the community garden project.

“It will give people a chance to get out into the fresh air, get a bit of light exercise in gardening and enjoy a bit of a chat with their neighbours.

“I have been working with the Housing Executive to try and secure funding for the garden and gain permission to use the land.

“My vision is that this time next year, people in Hill Street Mews and beyond will be enjoying the garden, tending to plants, fruit and vegetables and spending time with their neighbours.

“If you like to be involved in the community garden project please give me a shout.”
