Commitment to devolution must be demonstrated

Monday 12 June 2017

The future of our Institutions is on the line and the traditional parties must demonstrate commitment to devolution.

That’s according to Green Party leader Steven Agnew.

The North Down MLA spoke as talks aimed at restoring power sharing arrangements resumed today.

“We’ve had two elections since the Assembly has been suspended since the turn of the year.

“People have played their part in participating in these elections – it’s time that elected politicians do their jobs and put people first.

“This means prioritising our schools, hospitals and other public services. The means by which to protect and enhance these public services will not come from Dublin or London.

“The Assembly and Executive must be restored – we need local decision making and a system that puts people first.”
