Cllr Woods tackles plastic pollution through water refill scheme

Cllr Rachel Woods has said she is “delighted” to bring a water refill scheme to Ards & North Down Borough, aimed at reducing single use plastic.

The water refill scheme will be rolled out across the Borough from 19 June:

Cllr Woods said: “It’s important that Council does its bit to tackle plastic pollution, particularly through reducing single use plastic.

“Plastic waste is a huge environmental issue. A Keep NI Beautiful study found that 510 items of plastic were observed per 100m of beach in NI. 17% of this was plastic drinks containers, lids and caps.

“Refill stations will provide access to clean drinking water without creating plastic waste. Water is an important part of a healthy diet and lifestyle and this refill scheme send the right message to residents and visortrs to our Borough.”
