Cllr Georgina Milne urges Belfast City Council to plant more trees

Thursday 14 September 2017

Cllr Georgina Milne has asked Belfast City Council to direct resources towards tree planting and organising a programme of activities to tie in with National Tree Week in November.

Cllr Milne made the call in Council this week and also praised the “knowledgable and dedicated team who tend to trees within the city.”

The Ormiston Councillor said: “Trees make a really valuable contribution to city life. There are trees which we remember playing around as kids or trees that bring colour and life to an entire street.

“There are more than 60,000 park trees and 12,500 street trees within the Council boundary. However, there has been a drop in resources dedicated towards tree planting.

“I’m encouraging Belfast City Council to reverse that and direct additional resources towards a tree planting programme.”
