Cllr Georgina Milne condemns Israeli aggression

Tuesday 05 June 2017

Cllr Georgina Milne has supported a Belfast City Council motion condemning recent attacks by Israeli forces on protestors, including women and children, in Gaza.

The Green Party East Belfast councillor said:

“History has shown that such violence and aggression does not offer a solution and instead exacerbates conflict and leads to more death and destruction.

“It’s clear that armed Israeli forces pitted themselves against unarmed civilians, including, women, children and older people.

“The action they took in killing scores of people cannot be justified.

Cllr Milne concluded:

“That’s why I am supporting the motion calling for the expulsion of the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland”.

The motion was passed with 30 Councillors suporting and 18 against.

Motion

“This Council condemns the recent attacks by Israeli forces on protestors, including women and children, in Gaza”

“The Council calls upon the United Nations to investigate and place those responsible for genocide before the International Criminal Court and asks that the International Community and the people of Belfast stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza.”

“With Dáil Éireann having recognised Palestine as a state, the Council calls on the Irish Government to expel the Israeli Ambassador to Ireland.”
