Clare Bailey MLA welcomes new rape crisis service

Thursday April 12 2018

Green Party MLA Clare Bailey has welcomed the founding of a new regional rape crisis support service for Northern Ireland and called on departments to provide the desperately needed support.

The service was announced by Women’s Aid Federation NI, Nexus NI and Men’s Advisory Project.

The South Belfast MLA said: “It is heartening to see these three organisations working together to do all they can to fill the gap in crisis support for victims and survivors of rape in Northern Ireland.

“This collaborative approach is the future for Northern Ireland and plugs a major gap in rape services for victims and survivors.

“This week I was appointed co-chair of the Domestic and Sexual Violence All Party Group along with Michaela Boyle MLA. It is exciting to see this launch at the very outset of our work from the key organisations we are looking forward to working closely with.

“These organisations have been working for over a year to develop this initiative to better support victims and survivors and have a wealth of experience in delivery.

“I would urge the government to urgently provide the support that these organisations desperately need to do the important work they do,” the Green Party MLA said.
