Clare Bailey MLA launches safe access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services consultation
Wednesday 25 January 2017
Clare Bailey MLA has launched a consultation on safe access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services.
The consultation comes as part of the South Belfast MLA’s proposal to introduce legislation to protect women’s rights to healthcare provision.
Clare Bailey said: “I believe that everyone has access to healthcare in a safe manner and without fear or harassment.
“It should be noted that this Private Members Bill will not seek to make any changes to the current legal status of abortion. However, I acknowledge that Northern Ireland’s citizens hold a wide range of opinions on the issue of abortion.
“Families and individuals face intimidation as they visit sexual and reproductive healthcare services in Northern Ireland each and every day.
“Legislation exists in other parts of the world to protect patients accessing healthcare. This proposed legislation seeks to protect women and their families as they make their way into and out of healthcare facilities.
The Green Party deputy leader concluded:
“I am keen to hear your views on the matter. All responses are anonymous but information on whether the response is sent from inside or outside Northern Ireland may be available to the data collector.”
The consultation can be completed via a short electronic survey.
If you require a paper survey you can visit the Green party website http://www.greenpartyni.org/clare-bailey-consultation
The closing date for recipient of applications is 05 April 2017.
